Orestis Kalampalikis Guitarist – Composer

Orestis Kalampalikis is a guitarist and composer based in Paris. His compositions combine the influences of the Greek tradition, his country of origin, with Western musical language and classical forms. In his constant search for new ways of expression, he continues to introduce new techniques and playing methods for the guitar. He himself performs his works in concert and also entrusts them to renowned soloists or ensembles. He also composes for the theatre.

After studying music theory and guitar at the National Conservatory of Athens (class of Yannis Petridis), Orestis Kalampalikis obtains his Diploma in 2004. The following year he is admitted to the Conservatoire national supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Roland Dyens where he obtains his Soloist Diploma in 2009. He also studied composition with Bernard Cavanna and conducting with Henri-Claude Fantapié.

Holder in 2021 of a Master degree 2 in Musical and Sound Creation at the University Paris-VIII, he trained in music to the image, as well as contemporary composition with José Manuel Lopez Lopez.

Orestis Kalampalikis performance has been awarded at various international competitions: 1st prize of the Conservatory of Filippos Nakas-Patras (2006); 1st prize of the Panhellenic Competition of Veria (2006), and 1st prize of the Competition of Fontenay-sous-Bois (2007)2nd prize of the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award (2006).

He has also won international competitions as a composer: at the World Guitar Competition in Novisad, Serbia(2012), at the Lycia Guitar Days in Antalya, Turkey (2014), and at the Nilufer Guitar Days in Bursa, Turkey (2015).

Alongside his solo career, he often collaborates with other artists in various ensembles, and also singers such as Cybèle Castoriadis, Mashal Arman or Sofia Avramidou.

Orestis Kalampalikis also composes for the theatre and has participated as a composer and performer in productions with the company RL for the show «Iliade Brisée» by Laurence Campet, «La promesse du Papillon» by Damien Luce, as well as with the company Strates, on the show «IBSEN-The last offer» which won the Ibsen Institute scholarship.

A member of the Roland Dyens in the sky association, he has been conducting international workshops on the music of Roland Dyens since 2019 in collaboration with Laurent Blanquart or Jean Marc-Zwellenreuther.

Since 2018, he is also part of the editorial team of Guitare Classique Magazine, being in charge of the section of musical analyses.

His works are published by Productions d'Oz, Lemoine and Papagrigoriou-Nakas.
